Thighplasty Plastic Surgery
Thighplasty, commonly known as a thigh lift, can improve the contour of your inner or outer thighs. By removing excess skin and tissue, your plastic surgeon can reduce thigh circumference and create the appearance of a more proportional thigh.
Dr. Young Cho of Integrated Aesthetics offers thighplasty, as well as many other procedures in post-weight loss body contouring.
About a Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is typically performed for patients who have experienced significant weight loss or weight fluctuations. Common indications for thighplasty include:
- Excess tissue in thighs
- Stable body weight
- Non smoker (must quit several weeks prior to surgery)
- Motivated to improve body shape
If you believe that thighplasty may be right for you, it’s best to schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon in order to determine suitability for the procedure.
This outpatient surgery typically requires 2 to 3 hours of operating time, though it may be combined with other procedures for body contouring. General anesthesia or local anesthesia may be used. Dr. Cho marks the incision locations prior to surgery, taking time to minimize their visibility.
One common technique (the medial thigh lift) involves an incision in the inner leg crease, which allows the surgeon to remove excess skin and tighten the remaining tissue. Liposuction may also be used to remove unwanted fat from the thigh area.
Before Surgery
If you’re considering a thigh lift, the first step is a consultation with Dr. Cho. If you are scheduled to proceed with surgery, Dr. Cho will provide you with specific pre-operative preparation steps. The doctor will also help you understand the risks, benefits and expected outcome of thighplasty.
Thigh lift surgery often involves an incision on the inner part of the leg, starting at the groin and traveling toward the knee.
After Surgery
After your thigh lift surgery, Dr. Cho will send you home with specific post-operative instructions. After 24 hours, the doctor will probably advise you to walk around. For post-operative pain and discomfort, a pain medication can be prescribed. Surgical drains remove fluid during recovery, and they are typically removed within a few days of the operation.
Recovery time is approximately 4 to 6 weeks, during which time you will wear a special elastic compression garment that is designed to minimize swelling, promote skin contraction, natural tightening, and resume exercise.
Dr. Cho is committed to providing his patients with the highest quality of care, whether you have cosmetic concerns or reconstructive surgery needs.
