Breast Lift Houston
Mastopexy / Breast Lift Surgery
Women of all ages and walks of life can develop droopy, deflated breasts, although breast ptosis, or sagging, is most commonly seen in women who have had children or experienced significant weight loss.
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is designed to remove loose, stretched breast skin, return the breasts to a perkier position on the chest wall and reposition the nipples so that they are proportionate to breast dimensions.
About Breast Lift Surgery
Before your breast lift, Dr. Cho will evaluate the degree of ptosis, or sagging, in your breasts and talk with you about your cosmetic goals. He will use this information, combined with information about your unique anatomy, to determine where to place breast lift incisions.
Breast lift surgery incisions may be placed along half of each areola (crescent incision), completely around each areola (periareolar incision), vertically down the bottom of each breast (lollipop incision) and/or along each breast fold (inverted T or anchor incision). The type of incisions used depends primarily on the degree of sagging you wish to correct.
If you desire volume restoration in addition to a more youthful breast, Dr. Cho may also recommend a breast lift with implants. Whether you have a breast lift or combined breast lift and breast augmentation procedures, general or sedation anesthesia will be used, and the entire procedure should take 1 to 3 hours.
Before Breast Lift
Prior to your breast lift procedure, Dr. Cho will review your medical history and assess your existing health conditions to ensure surgery is safe for you. You will also be directed to carefully follow pre-operative instructions beginning weeks prior to surgery, including avoidance of all tobacco products and supplements and medications that can thin the blood.
In addition, Dr. Cho will provide you with post-operative care instructions well in advance of surgery so you will be prepared and ready with everything you need for recovery, including recommended surgical garments, supplies, medications and assistance from a friend or family member.
Recovery After Your Lift
Breast lift recovery doesn’t typically take long, as only skin and breast tissue are removed, and chest muscles are not affected. Most patients can return to work and normal daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks and experience only mild discomfort, swelling and bruising during this time. Changes in nipple sensation may also be apparent but will eventually resolve as well.
During a breast lift surgery, Dr. Cho performs careful incisions around the breast and nipple. Loose tissue is tightened and the nipple is elevated to a youthful position.
Dr. Cho will check your healing progress during follow-up recovery appointments and tell you when you may resume strenuous physical activity, such as exercise and sexual activity. In general, most patients must wait up to six weeks.
It is very important to follow all post-operative instructions during the recovery period and protect your surgical incisions from the sun, as sun exposure can cause scars to darken. Within 3 to 6 months, your breast lift results will be nearly final, and you will enjoy perkier, more youthful-looking breasts.
