Body Lift Houston & Spring
Patients who undergo a major weight loss, either through diet and exercise or with a surgical procedure such as bariatric, often struggle with excess skin afterward that masks the great strides they have made with their bodies. Dr. Cho offers those individuals body lift procedures to further slenderize their new bodies by removing that excess skin.
The body lift offers the following benefits:
- Removes excess skin following major weight loss
- Improves the fit of clothing
- Increases self-image
- A final step in major weight loss achievements
The incisions made during the body lift are placed in the natural folds of the skin where they will be less visible and can be hidden, if possible. The surgery is circumferential and may be done in stages, based on the individual and the amount of skin to be removed. After the incisions have been made, the excess skin is lifted and removed. Dr. Cho may also perform liposuction surgery to further contour the area. The incisions will be closed and compression garments will be applied to aid in proper healing and to maintain the new shape of your lower body.
A body lift can remove the “belt” of excess skin around the patient’s midsection.
Before the Surgery
The body lift procedure Dr. Cho performs is also known as a belt lipectomy. It is an extensive surgery used to remove excess skin from the lower body. It is often performed on individuals who have lost a massive amount of weight, which may be 50 percent of their starting body weight. You may be an ideal patient for a body lift if you have excess skin on your thighs, buttocks, hips and/or abdomen and experience discomfort and hygiene issues related to skin folds.
Before he begins the procedure, Dr. Cho will mark the incision points on your body and you will be placed under either local or general anesthesia. The procedure itself can last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours.
If you have lost a significant amount of weight and are now at a stable body weight with your weight loss complete, you are encouraged to contact Dr. Cho to learn more about the body lift he offers.
After the Body Lift
Following your surgery, you should expect to be on bed rest for about one day, but you may walk with assistance one day later. The total recovery time following a body lift can last up to 4 to 6 weeks, and you will wear a compression garment during that time. Drains may be placed following your surgery to collect any fluids and these are usually removed after one week.
