Can CoolSculpting Be Used to Treat Gynecomastia?

What is Gynecomastia And If I Have It Could CoolSculpting® Be A Good Option?

coolsculpting gynecomastia before and after 1The number of men who are paying closer attention to their physical and mental health has increased substantially over the last couple of decades. Men are finally taking care of themselves, and as a consequence, are much more aware when their body begins to change shape or subtle changes occur.

Only a few years ago, any mention of breast surgery would automatically have been linked to women, but that is no longer the case and many thousands of men undergo breast reduction surgery or treatment every year.

At Integrated Aesthetics, we offer a range of different treatment options for our clients, with our primary focus being on finding the best solution for each individual client. There is no one type of treatment that suits all patients, but for many people, there is a deep fear of any type of surgery. To that end, in this article, we are going first of all to explain the most common type of cause for enlarged breasts in men, and then discuss one of the most popular forms of treatment – CoolSculpting®.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a common problem that affects both boys and men, causing their breasts to swell and become larger than normal. One of the most frequent causes of Gynecomastia is an imbalance between hormones within the patient’s body. Boys and men produce both testosterone, and estrogen in varying quantities throughout their life. As boys reach puberty, the amount of testosterone they produce increases, and as men get into their later years, the amount of testosterone can drop. This, in turn, can produce an imbalance within the body, which can increase breast tissue. You might be surprised to know that about 50 percent of adolescent boys can be affected by this issue and about 66 percent of men over 50.

What Are The Signs and Symptoms To Look Out For?

Although every case is different most men will notice a small lump of fatty tissue located just under the nipple. Often this will be tender or sore to the touch. The breasts can appear to be different in size; this is perfectly normal and nothing to be overly concerned with. It is important to understand that some patients will struggle emotionally with this condition, and there is some evidence of a link to anxiety, depression, and reduced self-esteem as a result of Gynecomastia.

What Is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® is an excellent option for many patients who want to tackle Gynecomastia without risk, expense and downtime of traditional surgery. CoolSculpting® works by destroying the fat cells in the breast area. After the treatment has taken place, the body will naturally remove the dead fat cells over the next four to eight weeks. Some of the biggest advantages of CoolSculpting® are that it is a completely non-invasive, safe treatment that delivers results. In terms of time, the treatment takes no more than about 45 minutes, and many patients appreciate the fact that they can go straight back to their everyday life following the treatment. Another benefit is that the treatment is not painful. We will call you back into the office about eight weeks later to check on how your body responded to the treatment, and how you are feeling about the results.

CoolSculpting® Sounds Perfect, Why Would I Choose Any Other Form Of Chest Reduction Treatment?

Although there are many benefits to CoolSculpting® treatment for breast reduction, it is not the best solution for everyone. One of the main reasons Integrated Aesthetics gets so many new clients from personal recommendation is the time and effort we put into discussing the various options with each of our patients. There are some things that anyone contemplating CoolSculpting® for breast reduction needs to be aware of, and we have listed some of them below.

  • Although CoolSculpting® can be targeted at a specific area, it is not as precise as surgery. In addition, CoolSculpting® can only be used to reduce fat, whereas surgery gives the doctor the option of removing fat and glandular tissue.
  • CoolSculpting® only affects the fatty tissue layer.  If there is some skin laxity as well, then BodyTite may be an option to reduce fat and tighten.  For men with a lot of excess skin, then traditional surgery may be needed.
  • Liposuction is another option that Integrated Aesthetics offers, and our skilled team of practitioners can not only reduce the fat but can sculpt the chest to improve its shape, an option that CoolSculpting® cannot provide.
  • Although one of the big benefits of CoolSculpting® is the fact that it does not involve surgery, and consequently, the lack of any scarring, the reality is that male breast reduction surgery scars are minuscule. In other words, the inconvenience of surgery may be worth it for the more dramatic results that it can deliver.

It is impossible to provide any reader to our site with a full and comprehensive solution for their personal situation, which is why we recommend a full consultation with a member of our team.
